Burns Festival Trust Dumfries and Galloway – Call for Applications

The Burns Festival Trust Dumfries and Galloway exists to support organisations which stimulate interest in and commemorate the life and work of Robert Burns in Dumfries and Galloway. The Trust welcomes applications from local schools, groups and individuals throughout Dumfries and Galloway for financial help towards any project they may be planning which relates to Robert Burns. It particularly favours projects which involve young people.

Here are some examples of projects we have assisted financially:

·         Lincluden Primary – purchase of class sets of Scots dictionaries to help senior pupils access Scots vocabulary in the poetry of Robert Burns and create their own Scots poetry
·         Canonbie School – P6/7 class visit to Brow Well, Burns House, Mausoleum and Museum plus Scottish songs visit to the school
·         Noblehill Primary School - transport costs for P6 class visit to Burns workshops at Dumfries Museum and walking tour to Burns House and mausoleum

There is no maximum or minimum level of grant application. However, please note that trust funds are very limited and unless there are exceptional circumstances, grant awards are unlikely to exceed £250.

Burnscoke - genius from Year of Homecoming 2009 - sadly refused funding by Burns Festival Trust
There is no application form but you should apply in writing. The Trust meets twice a year and its next meeting will consider projects planned to take place from January 2014. In order to consider your application, the Trust needs a description of the project, a note of its overall cost and the sum you are requesting. It is the Trust’s policy that applications for assistance towards the cost of Burns Suppers (including schools Burns Suppers) will not be supported where the cost of the food is the predominant part of the application. Local groups should also submit a copy of their constitution and annual balance sheet. Applications must be received by Monday 25 November 2013.

If you wish more information on making an application please contact Rebecca Coggins, Secretary, Burns Festival Trust - Dumfries & Galloway, c/o Dumfries Museum, The Observatory, Rotchell Road, Dumfries, DG2 7SW, E-mail: Rebecca.Coggins@dumgal.gov.uk, Telephone 01387 245920 extension 63270
