On Saturday, 21st of September The Stove in Dumfries are hosting The Nithraid as part of the Environmental Art Festival Scotland
festival. Currently, we are seeking musicians/percussionists to lead a
musical procession to the River Nith from The Stove in Dumfries as part
of this exciting event. I am looking for volunteers who are
brass/woodwind players, as well as those who would like to play some
percussive objects to form a musical procession that would lead people
down to the riverside, whilst creating an atmosphere for spectators as
the boat race comes to its end.
This procession would play largely improvised music, and would be led by a small group of brass or woodwind instrumentalists. The group behind these instrumentalists would be providing a quirky accompaniment, playing found percussive objects.
For those of you who think this sounds pretty cool, but you admit that you have no musical training - do not fear at all! You definitely do not have to be musically trained – we are just looking for people who just enjoy making sounds. Do you think you could play a piece of pipe? A drum? A piece of plastic? Or something that makes a cool noise – a rain stick, wooden things, metal sheets, etc? Anything! This might be good fun for families, too...

I would anticipate having a meeting at The Stove in Dumfries at 10.30am on Saturday the 21st of September to meet everybody and have a brief run-through before the event took place. Please let me know by Wednesday, September 18th if you are interested.
