Skaftfell Residency Opportunity in East Iceland

Skaftfell - Center for Visual Art runs a residency program in Seydisfjordur, East Iceland. The program is now open for applications for a residency in 2015 with deadline September 1st.

The program is aimed at visual artists but artists working in intermediate fields are eligible to apply regardless of the nature of their primary profession or education within the arts.

The aim of the residency program at Skaftfell is manifold: to create and nurture an environment for inspiration; to encourage artists to experience life and work in a unique micro community where creativity is applied to the everyday; to foster a sense of community between artists and the public in the rural setting of East-Iceland; to facilitate circumstances for artists to experience, reflect and explore new means of their practice and to provide conditions that stimulate the dialogue between art and life.

The program is self-directed with the possibility of support from the staff at Skaftfell, who can assist participants in pursuing and realizing artistic research and practice. Artists are welcome to participate in the Skaftfell educational program, including artist talks, presentations or workshops for the local community, or the Skaftfell Art Class, which provides an educational opportunity for children from the neighborhood primary school. The program offers an opportunity for active dialogue with other selected international artists as well as the local artists community.
Application process
The duration of the Standard Residency period is from 1 – 6 months, but applications for a residency period of more than 1 month are given preference. Skaftfell also offers a short term Research Residency option.
