Kirkcudbright Tolbooth consultations

From today's Galloway News:
Redevelopment plans for Kirkcudbright Town Hall will go on public display next week. And locals will also have the chance to give their views on proposals to shut the historic Tolbooth Arts Centre.

The Council is looking to move the town's tourist information centre, library and customer service centre into the town hall, while it could also develop a new art gallery as part of the £1 million Kirkcudbright Integrated Facilities Project.

It is also considering moving the facilities at the 17th century Tolbooth into the hall, which has provoked anger in the town. Officials have been told they must prove there is public support for their Tolbooth plans before proceeding.

People will be able to find out about potential design options, just what would be involved and talk to council and Visit Scotland representatives.

The consultation sessions will take place in the town hall between 10am and 4pm from Monday to Wednesday, and from 10am to 7pm on Thursday.

So anyone with anything to say on the subject... get on down there.

  1. Kirkcudbright planning report available....I spoke to a planner friend of mine today, Nick worked on a plan for improving facilities in Kbt that was published in Feb 2010...it refers to ideas to move facilities around in the town (though not Tollbooth). If anyone would like a copy - give me a shout by email or through the blog and I'll email it to you.

  2. Having been to the Town Hall to see the proposals and talk with nominated representatives it is very obvious from the notes left there that this whole "one stop shop concept" ...at a cost of £1m plus is in some question!
    Key responses are as follows
    1. Do not move toilets from the Harbour Square
    2. Do not move the Tourist Information from the Harbour Square
    3. Do not close The Tolbooth
Naturally there are varied views about what could be done there as alternatives but it would seem (as far as I can judge) the public view is entirely at variance with the proposed plan as presented to The Area Stewartry Committee Meeting
We now await to hear how the Council interpret this consultation period and justify their decisions on this project
