Starter for 6. Investment pitch.

From David Smith.

Calling All Creative Businesses in D&G

Opportunity to pitch for Investment for your business

David Smith is Starter for 6 Programme Manager.  Starter for 6 is an Enterprise Training Programme for Creative Businesses.  Originated by NESTA it is now run by the Cultural Enterprise Office.  There are 4 sessions where participants develop a business strategy for their creative business.  There is phone-coaching, peer mentoring and the tools involved were specifically developed with Creative practitioners in mind.  At the end of the programme participants can pitch for up to £10,000 in investment in their business.

Starter for 6 has run for the first time in Dumfries and Galloway this year with 3 Dumfries participants.  Susan Seller, Clare Benson and Joanna McLennan Gibsey as well as a number of participants who have travelled down to train from the central belt.  Starter for 6 would like to return to the region but in order to do this we need to increase the number of applications coming from Dumfries and Galloway.

David Smith lived part time in D&G last year, as his wife is Alice Stilgoe, Film Officer of the Robert Burns Centre in Dumfries.  He is convinced there are a number of businesses that would benefit from the Starter for 6 process and the opportunity to pitch for investment.

On the 20 May the third session of the training is taking place at the CatStrand in New Galloway.  At the end of this session Starter for 6 is holding networking drinks for those who would be interested in applying for the programme in the future.  (There is a fast track version of the programme with a deadline at the end of July).  The drink starts at 5pm and will go on until 7pm. Anyone interested in the programme can find out more at the starter for 6 website I hope some of D&G creative entrepreneurs will be tempted to come along.
