Thomas Tosh in Thornhill will this Saturday host the launch of a new book which seeks to bring the old ballads to life. ‘The Bairns o Adam’ is a book of paintings by the artist Sheila Mullen with a commentary written by Ann Matheson. The book is a journey along the ancient roads once travelled by the ballad singers.

From 10.30 to 12.30 on Saturday 25 June the artist and the author will be there to talk about the visual drama and emotion of the traditional Scottish ballad captured in paint, and how the artist brings these vibrant stories brilliantly alive once again. The pair will interpret traditional Scottish ballads including Tam O’Shanter, Thomas the Rhymer, Fair Helen of Kirconnell and the Border Widow's Lament.
