Open meetings for creative businesses

Creative businesses across Dumfries & Galloway are being encouraged to attend meetings in Dumfries and Newton Stewart to find out about a new business organisation which has been established in the region. &Creative showcases the wealth of creative business talent within the region and it is encouraging sole traders and businesses offering services such as web development, photography, graphic design, architects and event management to work together to demonstrate the talent and expertise within Dumfries & Galloway’s creative business sector.
The meetings will take place on Thursday 17th November at The Globe Inn, Dumfries at 5.30pm and Tuesday 22nd November at Creebridge House Hotel, Newton Stewart at 6pm and are open to businesses and individual professionals who provide a creative business service.
The &Creative initiative is one of several collaborative projects supported by the South of Scotland Creative Clusters project which provides help to groups of small businesses in Dumfries & Galloway to encourage joint working. Eric Brown, Creative Cluster Advisor at Business Gateway, says the &Creative project has significant potential.
“While there are many highly experienced and skilled people providing creative services in the region, the disparate nature of the industry, with businesses working in highly specialised fields, means that the creative sector, particularly in a rural area such as this, often has a very low profile. That’s what &Creative seeks to address.
“It’s very early days for the organisation but these meetings are a good opportunity for people to find out more about the aims of the group. The long term goal of this project is to support the growth of the entire Dumfries & Galloway economy through increasing visibility and improving access to creative business services. In today’s economic climate branding and communication can make or break a company, so making use of the professional skills and experience available on our doorstep is absolutely essential.”
People interested in attending the meetings should contact Eric Brown on eric.brown@dumgal.gov.uk .
