Artist + Makers Grants - they're back....

from Lesley Rogers
Visual Artist & Craft Maker Awards: South of Scotland 2011-12
in partnership with Creative Scotland
First Deadline: 16th January 2012
Dumfries & Galloway Council and Scottish Borders Council, in partnership with Creative Scotland are running the Visual Artist & Craft Maker Awards 2011-12.  This is a new scheme for the South of Scotland – previously similar schemes were run by the 2 councils separately.

The new scheme is for individual artists and craft makers living and working in the Scottish Borders or Dumfries and Galloway. Artists are eligible to apply for awards towards the cost of creating new work or developing current work. Artists must be able to demonstrate a commitment to their work and to advancing their skills and ideas.
Applicants will be assessed against the following criteria:

·         Quality of the applicants work
·         Level of professional practice demonstrated
·         Expected impact the support will have on the applicant’s creative development
·         Quality of the information and visuals supplied in support of the application
·         Clarity of purpose behind the submission and reasons given for applying for award
·         Proposed projects must significantly extend the applicant’s current practice

Awards between £500 and £1,500 are available, which will assist artists to develop and extend their own personal practice. Applicants are advised to request the appropriate amount required for the project, rather than automatically apply for the maximum grant available. The total budget available for the scheme running in 2011-12 is £17,200 (£8600 for Visual Artists and £8600 for Craft Makers).

Applicants can apply for up to 90% of the total cost of their project. The applicant must fund a minimum of 10% of the project funds.
There are 2 deadlines for both the Visual Artist Awards and the Craft Maker Awards:
·         5pm,  Monday January 16th 2012
·         5pm, Monday  March 6th* 2012
* subject to remaining funds.  If funds still remain after the 2nd call in March, we will announce a 3rd call

If you need to contact us please note that I will be on annual leave from 21st December – 5th January, and that Mary Morrison will be on annual leave from 13th December-9th January.

Please note that because the scheme is South of Scotland forms are to be returned to CABN at the Heart of Hawick, not Gracefield , so please leave time for this.
