Tartanry and Tyranny....
Elizabeth Roberts wrote into the Commonty email and suggested that we post up John Lloyd's recent piece in the Financial Times newspaper about the independence debate.....so here it is
Also being of mixed Scots and English parents - I do NOT find being asked to lose the union uncomfortable. However I think that the issues should not be about nationality in the personal sense ie the real discussion here must be about a 'nation' - a nation that is composed equally of all those who choose to live and contribute to it....to be a PART of it at a very real level (after all - we all came from Africa in the beginning?!). If this incredibly important debate becomes mired in a petty shouting match about who was born where and who one's granny was....what a wasted opportunity it will be.
