Michael Riddle - a new face on The Commonty

Currently on display at Thomas Tosh gallery cafe, Thornhill, is an exhibition of unique handmade Scottish hardwood furniture by Michael Riddle.

Michael Riddle
I am a self taught woodworker that feels most comfortable when in the woods. Trees have always been an inspiration to me in themselves, crucial for life on Earth, pivotal in human development and a thing of beauty.

I make hardwood furniture from locally sourced and selected trees, which emphasizes the natural features and beauty in wood. ‘From tree to table’, all processes are undertaken ‘in house’, milling, drying and making.

Through simplicity of construction, solidity and practical usefulness, its nice to imagine the pieces I make being used and enjoyed by generations to come, in defiance of the throw away consumerist culture.

All welcome to view and touch.
