Forest Pitch - Match of the Day

For those unfamiliar with the story, 'Forest Pitch' is the Scottish contribution to the 'Artists as Leaders' strand of the Cultural Olympiad. 2 years ago a call went out for artists to come up with ideas for a large-scale artwork that could be presented alongside the London Olympics. There were a number of these awarded in the 'regions' of the UK and Craig Coulthard was awarded the Scottish commission.

Craig's idea was simple and poetic - he proposed clearing an area of commercial forestry to make a football pitch. This would be the setting for two matches, a womens and a men's game with teams made up from people who were new immigrants to Scotland. After the game the lines of the pitch will be planted with native tree species and nature allowed to take its course.

The games took place on Saturday 25th August - no one was available to attend for the Commonty - but early images and chat on social media look like this was one of those precious Environmental Art events that genuinely touched people's lives. Hopefully we will have more info soon as the official documentation emerges...
