From Moffat With Love

Hello the Commonty

Further to Moffat Book Events 'shout-out' yesterday: we  ran a highly successful conference in Moffat last weekend Sept 14-16 2012 with Russian partner organisation  the State Library for Foreign Literature in Moscow (VGBIL). The director of the library Dr Ekaterina Genieva OBE is a liberal reformer keen to facilitate links between Moffat and the region, so we are going to spend a year preparing a bid under Creative Scotland's 'Creative Places' scheme.
Nikolai Pavlovich Ulyanov - portrait of Michail Lermontov

Ideas mooted range from residencies,  bi-lingual editions of classics /contemporary literature from both sides; an exhibition/sales of Learmonth tartan in the library (Mikhail Lermontov, next most celebrated Russian poet to Pushkin, was descended from a Borders family) and a small but very prosperous mining town in the Urals wishes to pay for a statue of Robert Burns. All suggestions welcome for events and initiatives to info@moffatbookevents.co.uk
