Don your space suits and head into the Galloway wilds

Mandy McIntosh and Kaffe Matthews have developed a new public artwork; Yird Muin Starn, located at White Laggan Bothy at Loch Dee. Old Scots for Earth Moon Star, the work was developed over two years with the Forestry Commission for Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park. Galloway Forest is the first Dark Sky Park in Europe, and the pristine views of the cosmos are due to absolutely zero light pollution in a unique natural place. The work is inspired by the bothy movement which voluntarily maintains free space to shelter walkers in remote places. In this work, the artists devised thermal spacesuits, reclined Sky Gazers and an LP of cosmological songs and music.

The launch date for this new work is on 2nd February from 1pm at Cat Strand 'for music and background information to work from there to the interior of the forest. Followed by a live peformance at White Laggan bothy and a chance to explore the place, the works and the universe above.'
The event is free but ticketed - email info@yird-muin-starn.com for further details or book directly here

  1. This sounds great. I first visited White Laggan in 1973, when it had just been converted into a bothy. I had a tape of 'the newly released 'Space Ritual' by Hawkwind which I listened to, complete with reading's from Michael Moorcock's 'Black Corridor' - 'Space is infinite. It is dark. Space is neutral. It is cold....' which sounds like the Dark Sky Park in February...
