Spring Fling - It's Back and It's Bigger than ever

Spring Fling 2013 will be the biggest ever, with 93 professional artists,
makers and designers taking part in Scotland’s premier visual art and
craft open studios event.

Colourful, fun and inspiring, the event takes place from 25-27 May with studios all
over the region throwing open their doors to welcome in the public.
As ever the artists and makers taking part have all been specially selected, meaning
that the work visitors see is of the highest standard.

Leah Black, Spring Fling Manager, said: “This year will be the 11th annual Spring
Fling and it’s going to be the biggest ever, with a huge amount to see and do.
“The range of art, craft and design is enormous – from landscape and wildlife painting
and photography to ceramics, textiles, jewellery, furniture, sculpture, willow work,
video and installation.
“The size of the event and the quality of the work on show marks Spring Fling out as
being among the very best of its kind in the UK.
“As ever it’s is also a great chance to spend some time looking round Dumfries and
Galloway, which is one of the most relaxed and beautiful areas of Scotland.”

Last year visitors came from 19 different countries, including Ireland which is just a
short ferry ride away. Many visitors come from central and southern Scotland and the
north of England which are within easy driving distance.
Spring Fling is ideal for a day trip or for a short break – with lots of delightful small
towns, villages and superb coastal areas to stay and enjoy.
A range of evening events and activities is also being organised for visitors to enjoy
when the studios are closed.

Dumfries and Galloway is renowned for the number of artists and craft makers who
live there, with Spring Fling acting as a showcase for some of the finest.

In 2012 Spring Fling included 76 artists, there were more than 30,000 studio visits
and the event brought in around £1 million to the local economy.

Studios are open daily 10.30am to 5pm during the event and are free to visit.
