Drunk Chickens to Attend Awards Ceremony

Dumfries & Galloway-based author Mary Smith’s Drunk Chickens and Burnt Macaroni: Real Stories of Afghan Women has won through to the finals in The People's Book Prize.

The winner will be decided by public vote using an online voting system and the results announced at an awards ceremony in London on May 29. Mary is delighted to have her book go through to the final shortlist – and she needs your votes to be in with a chance of winning.

Mary said: “I know lots of people in Dumfries & Galloway voted for me in the first round and I so hope they will vote one more time for Drunk Chickens and Burnt Macaroni.”

Drunk Chickens and Burnt Macaroni: Real Stories of Afghan Women is in the non-fiction category. To vote for Mary’s book go to http://www.peoplesbookprize.com/finalist.php#nonfictionFinalists_829

Here’s a handy guide to the voting process:
To vote click on the box on the right and then click on word “Vote” beneath it and you will be taken to the form to complete your vote.

If you were one of those who kindly voted in a previous round you just need to enter the letters shown on the coloured background, your email address (twice!) and the password you used when you voted before. If you cannot remember the password, guess it and if you are wrong it will give you the option of having it emailed to you.

If you didn’t vote before click on the word “register” and you will find a short form to fill in after which they will immediately send you a password and then you can vote as in the paragraph above. Simple!

Voting continues until 10am on Wednesday May 29.
