It’s great to see such a variety
of artists represented in the Kinetic Landscapes exhibition at Stranraer
Museum.
Fresh Start project manager
Kathleen O’Neill was invited by the organisers, WestFest, to perform the
official opening of this enigmatically titled show.
As the list below shows, while
many of the more than two dozen participants are locally based, there is also
strong representation from Aberdeen.
Kathleen was hugely impressed by
the enthusiasm and dynamism behind the exhibition and believes that initiatives
of this kind are a superb way to shine a spotlight on everything that the different
parts of the region have to offer.
Special congratulations should go
to Vivian Delf for such an excellent job as
curator.
Afterwards she commented that it
fits closely with Fresh Start’s vision that opportunities and access to the
arts should be available to all – no matter what their background or where in
the region they live.
We hope that in future people
like those who organised and exhibited in Kinetic Landscapes will find that
they have new ways to make their voices heard and to help shape the region’s
arts sector.
In the meantime, why not pop
along to the exhibition and see if you fancy anything – prices range from £120
to £7,000 and the artists taking part are:
Pam Carter, James
Davis, Leo du Feu, Freida Dyson, Julian Francis, Claire Harkess, James
Harrigan, Gail Harvey (Shetland), Jan Holak, Denis Leiper (Aberdeen), Colin
Macleod, Suzan Malcolm, Bel McCoig (Aberdeen), Derek McGuire, Sheila Mullen,
Paul Murray, Pauline Murray (Aberdeen), John Nimmo, Ronald F. Smith, Val
Thomson (Aberdeen), Helen Turner, Felicity Walker, Peter Wareing, Elizabeth
Waugh, David Williams.
● The exhibition runs until 22
June. For further details visit http://www.dgartsfestival.org.uk/events/kinetic-landscapes-westfest/
