Occasional Bridge Series

A while back we published pictures of Auchencairn's sexy new designer bridge Elizabeth Roberts suggested an occasional series on interesting bridges and we asked folk to contribute. We only got one response to that - but it was so awesome that we are publishing it on its own.
Peter Stark (of recent D+G 'Fresh Start for the Arts' fame) was one of the people behind the famous 'winking bridge' at Gateshead:
'Asian Hercules' the crane that carried the Gateshead bridge 6 miles up the Tyne before placing it in position
Cracking wee film about the installation of the bridge - with added bonus of a Jan Garbarek soundtrack
And for those who are wondering what all this 'winking' stuff is about - here is a time lapse video of the bridge in operation (you might want to ignore the music on this one though....)
Gateshead Millenium Bridge - tilting
Thanks Peter - and fair play to you! You just never know where this Fresh Start stuff could lead.....
