Billboard Artworks - Trending this Summer

Last month, Twitter was all aflutter with this summers Art Everywhere project, 'turning the UK into the worlds largest exhibition.' 57 'British Masterpieces' were included in the final selection, spread across 22,000 poster sites across the UK, which were displayed for two weeks finishing up on the 25th of August.

The concept was perhaps an admirable one - replace advertising space with great art and inspire a nation - or something to that effect. The question seems to be as to whether a photograph of great art is great art, and indeed did anyone amongst a media-fatigued nation notice. Why a mention on the commonty? Well according to the projects website map there were indeed poster sites used within D&G - including sites in Annan, Dalbeattie, Gatehouse, Dumfries, and Gretna, though look as I may, I couldn't find any. Did any commonty readers have more luck?

Meanwhile, IMPACT: 8 - a travelling international printmaking conference last week landed in Dundee - with the theme Borders and Crossings: The Artist as Explorer. As part of the conference Cork Printmakers and the Crawford Art College (both from Cork city in Ireland) have teamed up to present their a billboard project of their own POST-IT print project. It follows a similar format to Art Everywhere, scaled down to cover poster sites across Dundee. Their approach however differs, emerging and contemporary artists creating new work to challenge the traditional spoon fed approach of contemporary advertising.
