Calling all young Songwriters


Burnsong for Young Songwriters Workshop 

Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th October at The Stove 100 High Street Dumfries DG1 2BJ followed by a gig showcasing the writers and their songs at Easterbrook Hall (Fringe4 Event) on Saturday 19th October.

Dumfries & Galloway Arts Festival supported by Burnsong are running a Songwriting Workshop (13 to 21 years old) on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th October at The Stove in Dumfries followed by a gig on Saturday 19th October at Easterbrook Hall.

The songwriting workshops will encourage:
• The development of students creative abilities
• An increased knowledge of the process of songwriting
• A greater knowledge of the poems and songs of Robert Burns

Burnsong patron Midge Ure explained that ‘Burnsong, in the spirit of Burns is to nurture aspiring young songwriters’ and ‘Songs are the lifeblood of the industry’, without them the music industry is stagnant.
 

The songwriting workshop, will be led by Robert Maitland, who recently completed his Masters in Songwriting & Performance at UWS Ayr and Rebecca Wallace (currently studying at UWS Ayr). Both Robert and Becci participated in this years ‘Gathering’ run by Burnsong in collaboration with the UK Songwriting Festival. Robert’s winning ‘Gathering’ song ‘The Queen of Oz’ sung by Lauren Dalgleish will be featured on Lauren's debut album ‘The Red Brick Road’.
