URGENT MESSAGE re Galleries and Museums Meetings

from David Lockwood

Dear Commonty

Following the release of the statement below by the Leader of Dumfries and Galloway Council, Councillor Ronnie Nicholson, the stakeholder meetings scheduled for 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th October on the subject of the review of Cultural Services have been postponed until there is further information to share with stakeholders on the proposed way forward.

As you are one of our stakeholder contacts I would be grateful if you could share this information with the rest of your stakeholder group as appropriate.

I am sorry for the short notice of this e-mail.

STATEMENT FROM THE LEADER OF DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY COUNCIL, COUNCILLOR RONNIE NICHOLSON

Since the Cultural Review commenced and the stakeholder engagement sessions were scheduled as part of the Service Review process, our Council has changed its Administration.

As a result of these changes our Cultural Service Review has been suspended.   This will allow our new Council Administration the opportunity to review the information produced to date, and the overall budget development process.

Once we have an established and agreed way forward, officers will re-engage with all stakeholders to ensure appropriate discussion takes place prior to Elected Members being presented with the Service Review outcomes, and any potential budget savings options.

  1. Aha - can this be the much-vaunted new relationship between the council and the arts in action? I believe we should expect more from David Lockwood than simply 'change of plan'. Our sector was asked to take part in a consultation about the future of public funding for the arts, do our opinions no longer matter? People have put time and thought into this process and this should be honoured by the council, it is to be expected that situations change suddenly, but working relationships need to be respected - further communication on this matter is to be expected from David Lockwood at his earliest convenience.
