Artist Facilitator at Gracefield

Picked up on the Creative Scotland Opps page this week, an opportunity for an artist facilitator in learning and engagement at Gracefield…
The artist facilitator will have a dedicated space at Gracefield and their brief will be to design methods to engage young people, school and college students and visitors to the gallery with exhibitions of contemporary art through a programme of workshops, events and youth-led initiatives driven by the themes or practices highlighted in the exhibition. (The target age group is 12-25). The selected artist will work closely with the Arts Officers at Gracefield to develop and deliver the content of the programme. This is a fixed term free-lance contract of approximately 200hrs or the equivalent to 1 day per week from March to September 2014.

Specifically, we are looking for an artist to:
1. Take the lead on all aspects of planning and delivery of the project, with the support of the Arts Officers, Gracefield
2. Work with children in local primary, secondary schools, young people at college or participants between ages of 12-25
3. Source materials and liaise with suppliers within agreed budget parameters, depending on design approach
4. Create a legacy of engagement with contemporary art which can be carried forward to future projects

The artist will receive:
• a fee of £4,200
• an allowance of £500 for materials
• provision of studio/office space
• reasonable travel costs

The fee has been based on industry rates recommended by Creative Scotland, and the days and hours worked will be negotiated with the successful applicant. The programme will also include out-sourcing to other artists/educators to deliver individual workshops and sessions designed to facilitate an exploration of the work and the themes raised, which will be developed during the period leading up to and during the first exhibition and continuing over the rest of the year. We aim to include special events in the programme such as an exhibition preview exclusively for young people, and a publication/resource which documents their experiences.
