Things are hotting with A the Airts latest Mediterranean exhibition

From Sara Bain at A the Airts

The debut exhibition of New Cumnock artist Jane Ross is taking place at A’ the Airts in Sanquhar this month. Inspired by the hot hues of the Spanish landscape, Jane’s colourful, often sparkling, acrylic canvasses of trees and fruit are evocative of the searing heat and arid conditions of a Mediterranean summer.

“I wanted to capture the hardship that plants face growing in the high Spanish temperatures,” Jane said. “Despite such adverse conditions, vegetation manages to grow and produce fruit. Nature is an amazing thing. “The colours I use, in particular, help to depict the Mediterranean heat as well as the vibrancy and sparkle of life inside its harsh environment.”

A prolific painter, Jane’s manifold collection of canvasses, prints, cards and postcards are on display in the exhibition area at A’ the Airts until March 30.
