The ‘Mungo to Ninian Heritage Trail’ and ‘Whithorn Pilgrim Passport’ will be launched by The Friends of the Whithorn Trust on Saturday July 30th at the Whithorn Story Visitor Centre. The project is aimed at raising awareness of the routes once travelled by medieval pilgrims. The Mungo to Ninian Heritage Trail leads travellers from Glasgow to Whithorn. The route follows many of the abbeys, churches, wells and bridges where travellers would have stopped, many of the sites were recorded in the pilgrimages of James IV.
The ‘Whithorn Pilgrim Passport’ route winds its way around the southern Machars. Beginning at the Whithorn Story Visitor Centre, travellers on this trail can purchase their ‘Pilgrim Pack’ of passport, map and timetable of open sites to visit and collect specially designed pilgrim stamps.
Launch of the Mungo to Ninian Trail and Pilgrim Passport project begins at 1pm at the Whithorn Story Visitor Centre and includes the unveiling of a labyrinth on the historic dig site, an exhibition on Medieval Glasgow, performances by local choirs, and a free open evening with music with a stovie supper available
