'Traces of Elsewhere'

A new exhibition featuring the works of Patti Lean & Kevin Philips

5th May - 27th May 2012

Patti Lean lives in Dumfries and Galloway with her family. She grew up in Paisley, and attended Edinburgh University.  She worked for a design company and later as a museum curator, and for several years attended painting classes with the late Archie Sutter Watt RSW, before returning to full-time education to complete a BA (Hons. first class) and MA in Fine Art. During this time, Kevin Phillips was her tutor and lasting source of ideas and encouragement.  For the last ten years she has combined teaching at the University of Cumbria with painting in her studio and exhibiting paintings.  She is a regular participant in Dumfries and Galloway Spring Fling Open Studios.

Kevin Philips has an MA in Fine art and has taken in part in many show both group & solo worldwide including The Royal Academy in London, Solvik in Sweden,  Artspace Gallery in Richmond, Virginia, USA, Complex, Santa Monica, California as well as regular appearances in Cumbria where he was also a course lecturer on the MA Contemporary Fine Art Course
Also including Ceramics from Beccy Ridsdel & Hanne Rysgaard

Baccy Ridsdel current work takes the form of an observation of a surgical experiment in progress. The ‘surgeon’ is dissecting the craft object to see what is within. She produces a beautifully dissected range of ceramics by pealing back layers.

Hanne Rysgaard has a personal approach to life which is “you have to smile” and my work focuses on fun and function – it is both useful and pleasurable in equal measures.  Her range of Slipcast milk jug in clear glazed porcelain evolve new designs by an ongoing process of play using different patterns to decorate the simple ceramic shapes which she has developed from past and present functional wares.

Hope you see you there
