The Big Mono Happening - call for proposals for a new collaborative music / visual art project

Outline:
Mono Cafe/bar seek proposals for a new collaborative project between Glasgow-based musicians and visual artists, to generate both exhibited and live work for The Big Mono Happening at the Merchant City Festival 26-29 July 2012. We are looking for project proposals which prioritise the transfer of skills and methods across music and visual art, and foreground notions of playfulness, improvisation, and using music and art to develop understanding.

Details:
We invite any combination of bands, chamber groups, improvisers, instrumentalists, painters, sculptors, performance artists, video artists,  to join forces and create a single project which incorporates both a live performance element, and an accompanying and enduring exhibition and/or installation, each of which informs and enriches the other. This work can focus on any chosen area of inspiration, concern, or research, and we would encourage groups to think big!

Both live and exhibition / installation elements will form a central part of the programme at Mono Cafe/bar during 26-29 July, and proposals should incorporate a static element which can be displayed or operated constantly throughout the Big Mono Happening.

Mono welcomes both children and adults so proposals should take this into consideration.

Mono can offer a fee of £400 to cover all materials and expenses.

Outcome:
One proposal will be selected and commissioned to make and present their work during the Big Mono Happening as part of the Merchant City Festival. The successful proposal and all applicants notified on Friday 29th June.

We hope this appeals, as we are excited about presenting something new, innovative, inspiring and illuminating here at Mono.

Good luck!

How to make a proposal:
Proposals should outline-
  • name of piece
  • description of piece - 500 words approx
  • people involved - please outline other previous or current work, groups, affiliations, achievements which are relevant
  • estimated tech requirements - these can be modified later
  • contact email address and phone number
  • any other supporting information - weblinks, images, video etc.
