Introduction to Printmaking with Silvana McLean

Have you ever wondered what this is all about? Why people get so enthused about this subject in these days of easy digital printing?
Here is your chance to find out.
Experienced tutor Silvana McLean will guide you through this ten week introductory course in the village of Moniaive covering several different types of printmaking

Monoprinting. (3 weeks)
The techniques explored produce charcoal-like drawings and also painterly layering of colour.  We will also learn how to use inks and rollers, how to keep paper clean and care of materials and equipment.
Drypoint. (3 weeks)
Using acetate, we will learn essential intaglio practices as the inking, wiping and printing methods are identical to that of etching.  We will print in both black and white and colour using a portable etching press  and beautiful German etching paper.
Linocut.  (4 weeks)
We  introduce design development to create bold, graphic images. Both black and white and two-part colour will be explored.  During this section we can develop ideas for Christmas cards and hand-print some for your friends and family.
