The Course
After a brief talk about the course the first session will begin with everyone working as a group on a large sheet of watercolour paper exploring the particular character of water based medium on hot-pressed paper using a variety of methods - pouring, blowing, mark making, resistance techniques such as salt, alcohol, wax etc. You will see the magic of accident.

You will then begin working individually. All materials, including a variety of paper weights and surfaces are provided.
After lunch there will be a brief opportunity to take in the inspirational local environment.

The second session will begin by looking at how the drying process has affected the work and then you will continue developing your piece further. There will be ongoing help throughout the afternoon and, at the end of the day everyone will look at the work produced over a cup of tea and home-baking.

On the second day everyone will be working on an individual piece with continued support and regular stops. The course will end with a short crit of the work produced and a cup of tea.

Times and food
The course is for small groups of any ability. Each day starts at 9.30am with coffee (Nespresso), a variety of teas and scones. Lunch will be at 1.00pm and is a light buffet of home made soup, sandwiches and fruit (vegetarian options). Tea, coffee and refreshments will be available throughout the day. The day will finish around 5.00pm.

"I had a lovely weekend. We were made so welcome at Ferndale and I think the course was a great success. Victor is really good at coaching and encouraging. It's a special skill to balance teaching/allowing self development /sharing artist experience, and Victor managed this brilliantly. This plus the great location, beautiful catering etc really worked well."
