Sara Maitland on connecting with Science

There are murmerings from the east this week!

a rare opportunity to hear a highly respected and well published writer speak about her creative process. '...I am growing to feel that 'hard' science stories are in many ways the core narratives of our times...'

This is a FREE event sponsored by Dumfries & Galloway Science Festival (through the Association of Science Education in Scotland and the Glasgow Science Festival)
This is the first of several literature events in the planning for locations east
of Dumfries. Coming up soon ( on May 27th as part of the Dumfries and
Galloway Arts Festival 2013) is a reading event, also at the Powfoot Golf Hotel, when the region's literature journal, Southlight, puts the spotlight on its editors' work alongside contributors to the current edition, with a little light music and readers from the floor.

Powfoot is the location of a community writing group, Powfoot Writers, who are working on their second book which will be published later this summer. They are also engaged in planning a poetry trail for the woodland walk that connects Powfoot with Cummertrees.

The success of their first book launch and a World Book Night reading in 2012 shows there is a lively interest in the arts in the east of the region.
