Spring Fling afters...the blog edition

Last week we asked Spring Fling folk to send links to their blogs from this years event to give others a wee look behind the scenes of one of the region's truly national events. Five people took up the offer - so, in the order in which they arrived at Commonty central:

'Muspelheim'
...I was overwhelmed by the fact that people had made the time and effort to visit my studio. People have travelled from all over the UK and other  countries. We've had interesting discussions, exchanges of ideas and knowledge, discussions on sketchbooks, materials and techniques, books to read ...the list is endless......
....Family and friends have been very supportive-from donations of baking for my daughter Bea's Bakery,Judith my friend helping out to Mum and Dad doing the gardening!...Huge thanks to Stuart Houston the butcher-allowing use of his car park for three days made our house accessible to visitors...

...What an amazing, crazy, intense, beautiful, sunny, wet, exhilarating, exhausting, curious, interesting, enlightening weekend!...

Cast Glass Golfball
....Something strange happened when I parted with works which I have since realised I was actually very attached to and possibly now regret letting go so easily – and has made apparent the need for me to increase my collection now that I have lost some of my treasured pieces......

.....One of our best ever gigs last friday [24th May 2013]! Titled “Spring it On”, we were the opening concert of the new music fringe festival of Dumfries and Galloway’s hugely successful “Spring Fling” Arts Festival......We knew this was going to be a good night when we heard a week before that all 60 tickets were sold – on the night Ian managed to fit in several latecomers – a Full House....I have always enjoyed best, gigs where the whole audience are strangers but you feel you’ve made some friends by the end of the night – this was one of those nights...

....Well, that is it past! Can hardly believe those three days and all the build up to them.
This was my first Spring Fling and it has been a wonderful experience....

Shetland, lambswool and fine cotton on Katie's loom
.......It is hard to say how many people came to my studio, but it was around the 180 mark. Which for a first time Spring Fling i think is pretty good! What concerned me was that i might get a lot of people who would come in, do a quick look round and then disappear. Only a couple of people did this. Either because they weren't interested or were in a rush to get somewhere else. People who arrived stayed and asked questions, which was great!.....

......Spring Fling is over for another year and my studio walls are now adorned with 127 Humphrey Bogarts..........One of the effects of photographing everyone wearing the same hat and coat, from the same angle, with the same lighting, is it emphasises the differences. And what differences there were!........Young, old, large, small, male, female, bearded, clean shaven, long and short hair, with and without glasses. The youngest was 2-year-old Cameron, and the oldest was 93-year-old Auriole. Some looked a bit awkward in the outfit while others absolutely owned it. Anne, a petite woman in her 60s for whom the coat was at least 10 sizes too big, still managed to look really chic....

Nice work Flingfolk!
