In Our Town - launched this weekend

Dumfries & Galloway Arts Festival and the council have teamed up to produce a new Events Guide for Dumfries which will be launched this weekend in the town.  The brochure features over 100 events which will be taking place between June and September, in more than 20 venues around the town.

“There’s so much happening in Dumfries this summer,” says Peter Renwick, Development Officer at the Arts Festival. “The publication, called In Our Town, features a really diverse range of events, from the RSAC Motorsport Scottish Rally and Tour of Britain cycle race to an outdoor production of The Globe Theatre’s King Lear at the Crichton. The Guid Nychburris guide and Street Entertainment programme at the Plainstanes are included too as well as dozens of gigs, exhibitions, films and plays.”

“This guide has happened thanks to a collaboration between arts organisations, the local retailers association and the hospitality sector in the town,” says Jack Groom Provost of Dumfries. “Everyone is working together to encourage more people to visit Dumfries and make the town a great place to live, work and visit.”

Lulo Reinhardt
The programme will be launched on Saturday by the internationally acclaimed gypsy guitar legend, Lulo Reinhardt who will then be performing a free gig at the Midsteeple from 1pm.  Lulo represents one of the most unique voices in gypsy-jazz music today. His Latin-Swing Project combines pure gypsy-swing music with elements of latin music such as flamenco, tango and bossa nova.

Copies of the events guide will be available from the Midsteeple, Gracefield Arts Centre and many other venues around the region, or visit www.dgartsfestival.org.uk.
