The Fixed and The Volatile - Richard Ashrowan shows in Iceland

Borders based Richard Ashrowan is showing in Iceland at Verksmiðjunni á Hjalteyri, an incredible artist-run gallery space in what was once a herring factory.  The exhibition called "The Fixed and the Volatile" and runs 03-24 August. Full details are available here

The show will see the premiere of "Speculum", a new seven part short film exploring the relationships between alchemy, movement, light and matter. For the opening event, I'll be conducting an experiment in
multi-projector performance called "Catoptrica". Based on elemental footage shot within Iceland and Svalbard, the performance involves ritualistic manipulations of light, using mirrors, glass vessels and
live video feedback. A new b/w 16mm work, "Cubiculum Umbrae", from my recent expedition to Svalbard in the High Arctic will also be premiered, with a specially commissioned soundtrack by the sound
artist Nick Kuepfer (Canada). Pat Law, a fellow Arctic Circle artist, will also be exhibiting a bunch of lovely new work within the same show.

And straight after the exhibition opening, there's the unmissable Factory Experimental Music Festival, curated by Guðmundur Kristjánsson, with Reptilicus - Re-Pete and Wolfmachine - Dick Vegas & The Dirty Papas - Rafsteinn and French Giraffe.

Iceland is a wonderful country and well worth a visit - do let me know if there's a possibility you might make it there!
