Folk Art Flowers Workshop at So Sew Pretty

From Leah Halliday

We are delighted to welcome along Mandy Pattullo to So Sew Pretty onSaturday 11th April from 10am until 4pm to share her passion and expertise at her Folk Art Flowers Workshop.

Mandy trained as a Surface Pattern and Textile Designer and now works from an attic studio in a converted manse in rural Northumberland. Her work is based on collage techniques - whether patching & piecing together fabrics or using paper ephemera and layering in her printmaking. She is drawn to pieces of cloth that have a patina. She primarily hand sews combining piecing & appliqué with stitch, and collaging in found objects and small precious bits of embroidery.

Spend a relaxing, inspiring day with Mandy, learning to create your very own hand stitched art work. Using motifs in folk art textiles you will learn to draw up an original design and then build up an appliquéd picture using traditional techniques. You will use a range of cotton fabrics as a palette and you will work on to an old piece of patchwork or quilt which will give a distinctive edge to your work. You will further enhance the appliqué with simple hand stitching. Mandy will show you how she finishes off her pieces to make them ready to mount or hang straight up.

All materials are included in the workshop so just bring yourself and heaps of enthusiasm. Plus a light lunch, tea, cake & teatime treats to keep you fuelled throughout the day are also provided. Price: £75,a deposit of £25 is required to confirm your place. More information on this and all other workshops hosted at So Sew Pretty please head to the website
