Creative Dumfries pipped to the Post

A big congratulations to Helmsdale, Peebles and Falkirk who were this week announced as Scotland's Creative Places for 2014, more details on the winners here. Unfortunately that does mean that the Creative Dumfries team lost out this year, however they have uploaded the short film produced to support the bid online, which is pretty inspirational in itself. Better luck next time Doonhamers!

  1. Do we know why Dumfries lost out to Falkirk? What gave Falkirk the edge?

  2. Not really Alistair - the Falkirk bid seemed to centre on opening out the creative opportunities afforded by their new Kelpies sculptures and Helix project to more people in the Falkirk community.

Whilst the Dumfries bid was about using the arts to involve people in the emerging project to regenerate the town centre as a place of culture and heritage.

The judging process took place over 24 hours before the announcement you can see who the judges were and what they said here - http://www.creativescotland.com/news/winners-of-the-2014-creative-place-awards-announced-29012014

Also you can see Falkirk's video here - http://vimeo.com/84695755 and their Facebook page here - https://www.facebook.com/creativefalkirk?fref=ts

Course we are biased - but the Dumfries Facebook page shows a heck of a lot more interest and local involvement we think! https://www.facebook.com/creativedumfries?fref=ts (big up to Katie Anderson for her work on the CDfs FB page!)

  3. Very sad that Dumfries didn't get the award. I was in the middle of Dumfries a couple of times during the Big Burns Supper weekend and you could really feel the creative energy, there was an atmosphere of change and moving forward.

What an excellent video, and it's only the beginning...
