VAGA events at Edinburgh Art Festival


The very excellent Visual Arts and Galleries Association is hosting a series of events at this years Edinburgh International Art Festival
VAGA International Research Enquiry (VIRE): discussion event
Edinburgh College of Art: Sunday 7 August, 3pm-4.30pm
The VAGA International Research Enquiry (VIRE) has been mapping current approaches to international working, networks and support structures over the past 12 months, concerned with researching curatorial practice in Scotland in relation to opportunities and developments in the visual arts internationally.  As the project comes to an end, this discursive event will explore possible models of support for continuing to internationalise working contexts for curators in Scotland. Speakers include:
Ellen Blumensein, The Office, Berlin; Andrew Patrizio, Edinburgh College of Art; Kirsteen Macdonald, VIRE consultant / researcher.

A public discussion event aimed at curators, artists, academics, writers and arts professionals.

Carbon Management in Visual Arts: project launch reception
City Art Centre: Thursday 18 August, 5.30pm - 7.00pm
VAGA Scotland is working with Creative Carbon Scotland to develop a climate strategy for the Scottish visual arts and galleries sector.  The plan is to develop strategies for the visual arts sector’s role regarding climate change and behavioural change and then measure - and reduce - member organisation’s greenhouse gas (ghg) to calculate an emissions profile for the sector and provide the basis for a Scottish Green Visual Arts Guide, providing advice, best practice and case studies for the sector.  This evening reception for VAGA members and other key arts organisations will launch the project with brief presentations by: John Leighton, Director General, National Galleries of Scotland; Jacqueline Ridge, Keeper of Conversation, National Galleries of Scotland; Nicola Henderson, Director, Timespan; Ben Twist, Creative Carbon Scotland.  FREE but please reserve your place

Curator's feedback session: Venice Biennale 2011

The Clipperton Project: discussion event
Scottish Book Trust: Saturday 3 September, 11am-12.30pm
The Clipperton Project has invited a group of 16 artists and scientists from 6 different countries on the three-week journey to this completely isolated French atoll in November 2011.  The scientists will undertake studies on Climate Change and the Biosphere whilst the artists produce work based on the history of the island and the voyage there.  This event will explore the ideas behind The Clipperton Project and reveal what the participants hope to achieve from taking part.  Speakers include: Gordon Liddle, Freelance Consultant (chair); Jonathan Bonfiglio, Project Director and Expedition Leader; and Charles Engebretsen, Sculptor.  A discussion event of interest to: artists, scientists, gallery and museum curators, exhibition makers, project managers and arts professionals.  FREE but ticketed - BOOKING at:
