  1. Yes, great if you were included! I had visitors (artists themselves) down from Fife who were astonished that not all professional artists and makers were included in the Fling; they had stumbled upon me by accident and couldn't quite believe that I hadn't been selected. In Fife, they said, the event is an all-inclusive do. http://www.openstudiosfife.co.uk/index.html I'm not sure about that, but I was disappointed not to be included, especially as the feedback I got from the few visitors I had was so positive. I'm not sure how many more hoops I should have tried to jump through!

Another point to remember is that some artists have other jobs and running the event over a non-Scottish bank holiday means that not everyone can get the Monday off, or be able to get the Friday off either! Look at Fife's event. It runs Friday evening and all day Sat and Sun. Far more inclusive again!

Just a few thoughts; maybe we can learn from others instead of thinking what we do is right.

  2. By the way, I hope this doesn't sound as if I'm bitter because I'm not at all! I'm not bigging myself up here and I totally understand that there have to be standards applied otherwise anyone could scribble a pic and want a studio space! I'm simply reporting back what folk have told me :o)
