Kevin Williamson is the founder of Rebel Inc, which gave a first voice to Scottish writers Irvine Welsh, Laura Hird and Alan Warner. He's a writer, publisher, activist, performer and dad. He also co-edits Scotland's most widely read cultural and political blog Bella Caledonia


His one man show 'Robert Burns Not in My Name' played during the Edinburgh Festival at the National Library of Scotland to a vociferous and learned audience, some of whom might just have had their complacency about who Robert Burns really was, somewhat shaken.


This is a rare Dumfries opportunity to see a show that yanks Burns away from the neutered, shortbread infused couthiness that threatens to corral Scottish identity into a kailyard laden Brigadoon. This is Burns the radical thinker who had to be kept in his place by the authorities for fear of inciting French revolutionary sedition in fractured Scotland. Don't expect the lovely sentimental romantic poems, look out for hell raising seditious work like ‘Address of Beelzebub’, ‘I Murder Hate’ or ‘Tree of Liberty’. If you see one show at this years Big Burns Supper Festival, make sure it's this one.
