Moffat Book Events will
be bringing the doyenne of British gardening, Anna Pavord, to their festival of
books and gardens -'Beyond the Garden Gate'

On Saturday 26th
and Sunday 27th May 2012 'Beyond the Garden Gate' will offer two
glorious days of visiting gardens, meeting authors and participating in events
and conversations. Moffat Town
Hall will host a Gardening Symposium titled ‘What are gardens for?’ and conversations
with well known gardening authors, including Anna Pavord herself.
Also confirmed to
appear at the festival are international garden and landscape photographer and writer Jennifer Gough-Cooper
who will be discussing her latest book Origins, and her long term
working partnerships with Scottish artists Richard Demarco and Ian Hamilton
Finlay; and Richard Wheeler, National Trust garden history specialist on
'genius loci', or the spirit of place.
World famous Craigieburn
Gardens, just outside the town, will be open free to the public all weekend,
and will also host events. Created
by Janet Wheatcroft and Sherpa –turned- gardener Dawa, Craigieburn is full of
contrasts, drama and harmony.
Further highlights of the weekend will include
an evening of refreshments and readings by kind permission of the current owner
in the Moffat garden of best-selling romantic novelist and some-time
resident D.E. Stevenson, and the irresistible opportunity to explore
private gardens large and small around Moffat, sustained, by tea
and scones at St Andrew’s church.
