from Jenny Wilson
Birkbeck’s Centre for Contemporary Theatre (Part of University of London) is pleased to announce two Artistic Associate positions for the academic year 2011-12. In
order to build on our history of fostering artist and critic
development we are offering two associate artist positions each year at
the Centre, where artists can develop projects with the support and
supervision of theatre staff in the department. We hope that these
positions will offer a genuine exchange between artists and the
institution. We will offer three termly meetings for discussion and
advice, along with some agreed access to an office and rehearsal space.
In consultation with staff, artists can also engage in the thriving
research culture in the department of English and Humanities, and take
part in the broad range of reading groups and research centres run in
the department
In return, these artists
will offer one class to our students and one public event per term (two
classes and two events in total during the year), culminating in a
presentation of the work they have done during the year to a public
audience (this may involve a workshop, performance, installation or
talk, depending on the nature of the artist’s work).
The artistic associate award covers a stipend for the associate artists of £1,000 to cover some of the costs incurred during the artist’s work at Birkbeck. These artists will be joining a growing community of honorary research fellows in the Centre
