Drunk Chickens and Burnt Macaroni

Local author Mary Smith is launching her non-fiction book, Drunk Chickens and Burnt Macaroni: Real Stories of Afghan Women at Kirkcudbright Library on Tuesday, November 27 at 7.30.

Drunk Chickens and Burnt Macaroni provides a remarkable insight into the lives of women in Afghanistan. Despite the hardships in their lives – and there are many – Mary shows the women are not all helpless downtrodden victims but women of courage, determined to make the best of life for themselves and their families.

It will be an informal evening with the chance for the audience to ask questions, hear some short extracts from the book, examine some Afghan artefacts and try on a burqa.
This is a free event as part of Scotland’s first National Book Week. To reserve a seat contact the library on 01557 331240.
