Day of the Region 2013

Ten communities across Dumfries & Galloway will take part in this year's Day of the Region celebrations, launching in October 2013. This is the final year of support for the initiative, supported by the D&G LEADER Programme, which celebrates rural community life.
This year will be the biggest yet, with 10 communities from across rural Dumfries and Galloway taking part and the celebrations being sponsored by SRUC.
The ten participating communities are:
  • Crocketford
  • Dundrennan
  • Kirkconnel
  • Kelloholm
  • Lochmaben
  • Moffat
  • Penpont
  • Keir
  • Tynron
  • Sanquhar
Dumfries and Galloway LEADER Programme have confirmed the celebration of rural community life will be launched in participating communities on Friday 4th October with the 'Day of the Region' being Saturday 5th October.
Already, local volunteer co-ordinators are planning a variety of activities and events which will be delivered as part of the Day of the Region celebration  in Dumfries and Galloway including ceilidh dancing, arts and crafts sessions, food and drink, film shows, guided walks, cycle routes, heritage trails, concerts, youth group promotions, community calendars, dog training, folk music, DJ sets, flower shows, fishing skills, sheep dog displays, dance lessons, zumba, holistic therapies, camera lessons, family photographs, comedy night, drama workshops . . . and even belly dancing!
Organisers are keen to ensure that there is something for all ages, abilities and interests and encourage you to get involved and be part of it over the coming months to ensure there is something for everyone.
