Musicians WANTED

It's all happening in Creetown!
Local musician Nathon Jones

"Wanted: Musicians for Creetown’s first ever Buskers’ Festival
Saturday 1st of June 2013

The village of Creetown in Dumfries and Galloway will be hosting a new, free music
festival on Saturday the 1st of June and organisers are searching for musicians of all
abilities and disciplines to get involved. The Creetown Busker’s Banquet will see up
to 50 musicians take part, performing around the village at various locations, with
prizes for the best acts including a set on the main stage at the Eden Festival.

“This is a great opportunity for any up and coming performers to get some exposure
and recognition,” says Nathon Jones (pictured), a local musician who has already
signed up to take part in the Buskers’ Banquet. “The Eden Festival has always shown
tremendous support to emerging musicians and local communities around the
region and it is fantastic that they have offered a slot on the main stage as the first
prize at this event.”

Any musicians interested in taking part in the Busker’s Banquet must register in
advance. “You can register either by emailing us at creetown@btconnect.com by
phoning 01671 820654.” says organiser, Andrew Ward, Senior Project Manager
of Creetown Initiative. “Although none of the Buskers will receive a fee, they can
collect donations in a red bucket which will be provided by us. Alternatively they
can choose a green bucket with donations going towards the Creetown pensioners’
Christmas dinner. In addition, all Buskers will be invited to an evening banquet at
the Gem Rock Museum in Creetown where they can enjoy good food, company and
music.”

The event is part of a larger residency taking place in Creetown, hosted by the
London based National Symphony Orchestra and commissioned by Creetown
Initiative with prize money from the Creative Places Awards which the community
won last year. As well as delivering workshops, tutorials and master-classes at the
school and silver band hall, musicians from the orchestra will present a performance
on the evening of Sunday the 2nd of June at 7pm at the Gem Rock Museum. “The
NSO is delighted to be hosting the Buskers’ Banquet,” says Jim Anderson, one of the
trustees of the NSO Board of Directors. “The orchestra has worked with many world-
class musicians, including rock, pop, jazz and classical. The Buskers’ Banquet is an
opportunity for communities and musicians of all disciplines and backgrounds to
come together, share their experiences and inspire each other.” "
