Reel Iraq @ The Bakehouse

March 21st 7.30
Reel Festival: A reception and readings at The Bakehouse for poets from Iraq and around Scotland.

Reel Iraq featuring Iraqi poetry in Arabic and with brand new translations and readings from John Glenday, Jen Hadfield, William Letford and Krystelle Bamford.  Reel Festival will also present specially commissioned work by some of your favourite poets from Dumfries and Galloway including Tom Pow, Liz Niven, Hugh McMillan, Angus MacMillan, Alan McClure and The Solway Poets. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to hear Iraqi poets, to engage, to ask questions and to enjoy the riches harvested from translation.

This is a free event. Places are very limited.

I do know the effort and the commitment it takes to build an audience and to create the atmosphere you have at The Bakehouse. I was impressed by the obvious talent but more so by the fact that people were obviously writing for the occasion, or using it certainly as a forum where they could share their work in a creative environment. That’s a creation.Tom Pow.
