This August, come along to Logan
Botanic Garden in the South Rhins and meet Jean
Atkin, one of four poets selected by
The Scottish Poetry Library in partnership with the Royal Botanic Gardens of
Scotland for the project Walking With
Poets.
Jean will be based in the Yurt,
but will also be found out and about in the garden, talking to visitors and
encouraging them to engage with the garden through poetry.
You can try your hand at:
·
Writing a short poem on a label and tying it to The Poet Tree with red ribbon
·
Taking a short walk with Jean to contribute
words, lines, ideas, thoughts, observations which will all go into Potted Poems. Which is an actual plant pot Jean carries for
the purpose. Back at the Yurt, she will
help you grow a poem.
·
Trust to serendipity – around the garden are Garden Dada Poetry posters. Collect a Garden Dada Poetry sheet from the
Poetry Yurt before you go, then track down the posters to build, through the
sheerest chance, your own Garden Dada poem.
·
Logan
Poetry Postcards – a drop-in activity for all ages in the Yurt. Dip into little cloth bags to find the words
to start you off, write a short poem on a Logan Poetry Postcard, and decorate
it with stamps and colours. It could be
a souvenir, or – you can post it.
Jean will support all these
activities and more for 4 days a week throughout August. Check out
www.walkingwithpoets.wordpress.com
for a day by day schedule of events.
This is poetry for the fun and
joy of it! But poetry makes the world
new, and Walking With Poets hopes that visitors will see the garden afresh.
And you are also warmly invited
to
Walking With Poets at Logan – a goodbye celebration reading
Friday 30 August 3pm
A chance to be in conversation
with Jean about her month in residence in Logan Garden, and listen to her
reading some of the poems created by visitors, and some of her own poetry.
Refreshments available. Free event!
During August, please look out for daily poems, stories and photos
posted by Jean via www.walkingwithpoets.wordpress.com , and also on Logan Garden’s twitter and Facebook
streams – look for #gardenpoet.
