Dogstar
Theatre company are arriving in D&G in September as part of their month
long tour of latest production, The Baroness. Karen Blixen's Final Affair by Thor Bjorn Krebs, translated by Kim
Dambaek is our first production of a play from Scandinavia. With the amazing
classical and TV actress and writer Roberta Taylor in the role of
Karen Blixen, it's a brilliantly written play about an extraordinary friendship
between the ageing writer of Out of Africa, (Karen Blixen's pen-name was Isak
Dinesen) and a young poet, Thorkild Bjornvig.
The play charts the course of this
relationship and also the relationship of a third character, Benedicte Jensen,
to Bjornvig and Blixen. Benedicte
was the wife of Bjornvig’s patron and publisher.
The Baroness premiered
to rave reviews at the Folketeatret in Copenhagen in 2011 and was nominated as
play of the year in the 2012 Danish Theatre Awards. Full of tension and poetry,
with three tremendous acting roles, the play is inspired by anecdotes, letters
and books by and about both Blixen and Bjørnvig.
To catch them locally, they are performing at
the Catstrand on the 11th of September, or the Buccleuch Centre in Langholm on
the 12th. For ticketing details please contact the venues direct.
Dogstar is now established as one of
Scotland's leading touring theatre companies. We are based in the
Scottish Highlands in Inverness, one of Europe’s fastest growing small
cities. Our productions tour throughout Scotland and
internationally. Much of our work springs directly from the
Highlands’ defining characteristics: a stunningly beautiful and harsh natural
landscape; a tumultuous and marginalised history; a shifting and changing
population; a vibrant oral and musical tradition. Our productions
endeavour to speak to our audiences in the Highlands and beyond using some of
Scotland’s best actors, musicians, writers, directors and designers and
collaborating with international artists and partners.
