Surfacing - A Textural Adventure with Silvana McLean

The natural world affords a fascinating study of source material for many artists with an seemingly inexhaustible supply of inspiration. Our world is full of variety both visible to the naked eye and with a microscope/magnifying glass. During this four day Summer School we will be exploring the landscape around us as the design beginnings of a series of prints learning the techniques of Collagraph (Mixed Media Printmaking) with its beautiful textural qualities and the multi-layering possibilities of monoprint. We will print in colour in addition to black and white using a portable etching press and soft etching paper. The resulting images can range from widely developed abstract approaches to more representational work according to the needs of the artist. These techniques are easily accessible for beginners in addition to those with more printmaking experience and excellent results are achievable at all levels.
