The Fresh Start for the Arts project has been set up to look at how best
to provide strategic leadership for the arts and culture in Dumfries and
Galloway.
By taking an artist-led approach it aims to give the region’s arts
community a much greater say in its own future.
Other objectives include:
- increasing access to the arts for all members of the community
- raising the profile of local arts practitioners nationally and internationally
- developing the arts as a means of delivering social
and economic aims in areas such as education, health/wellbeing, tourism, regeneration
and the environment
- making the arts accessible as a career option for our
young people
- supporting the creative sector as vital part of
regional economy.
Project leadership
Fresh Start is being overseen by Dumfries and
Galloway Arts Partnership (DGAP) – which is made up of a range of people with
roles in the regions artistic and cultural life.
The DGAP board also includes members from key partner
organisations such as Dumfries & Galloway Council and Holywood Trust.
The
project manager is Kathleen O’Neill.
Funding and timetable
Funding for Fresh start is provided by LEADER, Creative Scotland and
Dumfries and Galloway Council. Other organisations involved have included
VisitScotland and the NHS.
The intention is for the project to complete its work
during 2013.
